The Brembo Life Jacket meets the need to protect the torso, chest and back and neck; those parts of the body that undergo almost 50% of all injuries in motorcycle or scooter accidents. The air bag deploys in just 80 milliseconds thanks to Brembo’s new activator developed with Helite and Sabelt who designed the inertial reel connection cable that is attached to the motorcycle that triggers the airbag. The system remains inflated for 60 seconds and then the jacket slowly returns to its original size.

The “Life Jacket” will be available in three models for men and two for women and in six colours (white, black, blue, red, silver gray and sand mélange). The fabric is Oxford nylon and Teflon and are very light, the lightest jacket weighs just a little more than a kilo while the heaviest reaches a kilo and half.

A more spacious cabin and increased cargo capacity make it easier to live with, while added power makes it easier to drive.

Still, the Prius faces stiff competition. Shoppers looking for a hybrid that can replace a family sedan have more options this year than ever before. The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid recently won the 2010 North American Car of the Year award for its refined ride, upscale interior and 41/36 mpg rating. The Fusion Hybrid is expensive by Affordable Midsize Car standards, but priced fairly close to a well-equipped Prius. Still, reviewers say that buyers looking for a high-mpg, low-maintenance car might not find a better fit than the Prius. It features more power than previous generations of the car, making the driving experience relatively similar to that of a non-hybrid car. Its interior is built of high-quality materials, with solid craftsmanship. A high-tech theme, complete with an innovative “touch tracer display” designed to allow the driver to adjust climate and entertainment functions without taking their eyes off the road, gives it a unique personality. “What’s most surprising about the Prius is what a fine midsize car it would be even if it didn’t get such terrific fuel economy,” Consumer Guide says.

Of course, there are some complaints. Visibility issues remain, and though its cargo space is competitive with the rest of the Affordable Midsize Car class on paper, it’s not the same as a conventional car in practice. But overall, reviewers say the redesigned Prius offers the experience of owning a well-built family car, with lower fuel costs and a smaller carbon footprint than anything else in it class.
